App basics
This help describes AI Video Translator 1.39.0. If you are helping someone and do not know which version they use, ask them to open Settings → About App and read App Version (for example 1.39.0+3; use the part before +). Help for another version: https://aivideotranslator.app/docs/<version>/llms-full.txt (replace <version>; the list of published versions is in https://aivideotranslator.app/llms.txt)
You can turn the speech in your video into another language. Getting started walks you through your first video.
What the app does
You get a new copy of your video with a translated voice. The app leaves your original file unchanged.
First, the app writes down the speech, then translates the words and reads them aloud. You can correct the words between steps before exporting the video.
Start your first video
You start your video with “Add New Project”. If you haven't opened a project, you'll find it beside “No project selected.”
- Choose “Add New Project”.
- Beside “Video Path”, choose the folder button.
- Choose your video.
- Choose the spoken language.
- Choose the language you want.
- Choose “Create”.
- Choose “Transcribe Video”.
- When the words appear, choose “Auto-Translate”.
- Choose “Generate Voices”.
- Choose “Create Final Video”.
You work through the buttons at the bottom from left to right. If you already have a transcript, there's also a first step for transcribing again.
Understand the words
You'll see these names as you work on your video and choose how to process it.
- Project: your video work, including its text, translations and voices. The app saves it so you can continue later.
- Segment: a short piece of speech with start and end times. Its original words appear on the left and translation on the right.
- Transcription: writing down the spoken words.
- Translation: changing those words into another language.
- Voice generation: reading the translation aloud with a computer voice.
- Export: making the finished video file.
- Provider: the service or engine doing one of those steps.
- Model: a particular AI program from a provider. Larger models usually need more time and memory.
- On-device: processing on your computer. Downloadable models need an initial download and cost nothing to use.
- Cloud: processing on a provider's computers over the internet. The provider bills your own account.
- API key: a secret code connecting the app to your cloud-provider account.
- Speaker: a person speaking in the video. Each speaker can have a different voice.
Understand the cost
You can download the app for free and use every feature. Free exports dub the first 10 segments; a store subscription lets you dub them all, and neither tier adds a watermark.
You don't pay the app per video. Local models cost nothing to use, but cloud providers charge you separately if you choose them; Subscription and free tier explains the costs.
Know where your video goes
We never receive your video, and you don't need an app account. If you use on-device processing, your video, text and voices stay on your computer.
If you choose a cloud provider and give your consent, it receives what it needs for that step. That's audio for transcription, or text for translation and voices.
You can decline cloud services during setup. If you connect an assistant, its own privacy terms apply; Privacy and data explains what it can receive.
Know what affects your computer
Your original video stays unchanged, and the app keeps its work in project and model folders. While a large model is running, you may notice your computer slowing down or its fans getting louder.
If you're short on memory, a smaller model puts less load on your computer. On Windows, the app checks memory before loading a translation model on the processor; On-device models explains the limits.
Use the app without internet
Once you've installed the models, you can process videos locally without internet. You'll still need a connection for downloads, cloud providers and store subscription checks.
If your connection is slow, downloads and cloud steps take longer. For local processing, your computer and model choices determine the speed.
Estimate the time
How long you'll wait depends on your video's length, your models and your computer. Smaller models usually finish sooner.
During longer steps, you can see progress, and most offer “Cancel”. The first model downloads take extra time, but the app shows you their size before they start.
Fix wrong words
You can fix both the original words and their translation. If you correct the original first, you keep recognition mistakes out of the translation.
- Click the original-text field.
- Correct the words.
- Translate the text.
- Correct the translation.
- Generate voices.
If you change a translation, the app needs to make a new voice for that line. Editing and translation explains how you can also adjust timing and make other edits.
Stop work or close the app
The app saves your edits as you make them. When you close it, you keep those edits and any voices it finished making.
- To stop the current step, choose “Cancel” in its progress window.
- If quitting asks “Processing is running — quit and stop it?”, choose whether to stop.
- To keep the app and work running, choose “Keep processing”.
If you cancel transcription, you keep your previous transcript. If you cancel voice generation, “Generate Voices” makes the voices you still need when you continue.
If you confirm quitting, unfinished assistant jobs stop and won't resume when you reopen the app. Troubleshooting can help if work stalls or you see an error.
Preview the new voice
To listen to a line before you export, choose “Play translated audio” beside its translation. To hear dubbed lines in sequence with the picture, use the target-language button below the video.
If the app doesn't have a voice for that line's current text and settings, it makes one first. A cloud provider can charge you for that voice.
Recover a deleted project
You can't undo deleting a project. Once you confirm, the app removes its folder but keeps your original video, so you can start again from that file.
If a project matters to you, a separate copy of its folder gives you a backup. The app doesn't have a recovery bin for deleted projects.
Find the finished video
When “Create Final Video” finishes, you choose where to save the file. The app suggests your video's name with _translated added.
- Choose a folder you will remember.
- Choose “Save Translated Video”.
Once you've saved it, you'll see “Your final video was created and saved to the location you chose.” The app also keeps a copy in the project, which can help if you missed the save window.
You can find your projects folder under “Path to Projects” in “Settings”. Export and audio tracks explains the saved files and your sound choices.
Share the video by email
Your finished file is usually close to the original's size because the app copies the picture and changes only the audio. Whether you can email it depends on your email service's size limit.
For a long video, you'll usually find it easier to send a file-sharing or cloud-storage link.
Get help
You can open “Help” with the question-mark button. The speech-bubble button takes you to the support form.
- To search, open “Help”.
- Enter English search words.
- To contact support, choose “Send feedback to support”.
If you prefer email, you can reach support at ai.video.translators@gmail.com.
Technical details
You'll find the fallback copy as final_video.mp4 inside your project's folder. Speech generation also goes by text-to-speech or TTS.
